2016 MNCDGA Championships

Shane Cutmore has made it back to back Mid North Coast Golf Championships after surviving a three-hole sudden death playoff at Coffs Harbour golf Club last Sunday.

Cutmore and clubmate Jason Barby finished tied with 18-hole scores of 76 on what proved difficult scoring conditions. The pair had played together both had three putted the final green of regulation play however in sudden death it took a three metre birdie on the third extra hole for Cutmore to claim the win. Dan Swain was the nett winner pipping Greg Harvison (Grafton) by one stroke.

The championships were played in five divisions and the home club members having the advantage took at the majority of the prizes.

A summary of the other winners showed Grant Purdy shooting a great round of 80 to win Divsion 2 by one shot from fellow Coffs members Callan Tarrant and Neil Coogan. The Divison 2 nett winner was Dave Morgan (Grafton) who beat District captain Don Penson on a countback.

The Division 3 and 4 champions both came from Coffs Harbour. Graham Cowling was the Division 3 winner with a round of 84 and Dave Wall took out Division 4 shooting an 89.

In Division 3 Greg Hawke (Bellingen) was the gross runnerup losing top spot on a countback. The Division 3 nett winner was Bryan Maxwell on 73 from Marty McFadden on 74.  In Division 4 the runnerup prize went to John Piggott (Urunga) who defeated Paul Fitzgerald on a countback and the nett winners were Col Osland (Bellingen) with a 72 and JV Newcombe with a 73.

Jim Fahey from Dorrigo is this year’s Division 5 winner. He had a round of 97 and that gave him a four-shot victory over Ron Walker. Walker was declared the nett winner while the gross runnerup went to Harry Major and the nett runnerup was won by Kevin Booth.

The teams event was taken out by the Bellingen team of Nick Jenkins, Glen Jones, Greg Hawke and Col Osland with a best three of 4 score total of 219 (72,72,75)

The team runnerup was won by the Coffs team of Graham Cowling, Wayne Kelley, Paul Fitzgerald and Neil Coogan with a score of 220 (70,74,75)

Nearest the pin went to 3rd Greg Harvison, 6th Denys Tobin 12th, Mark Lewry, 15th Don Penson
