DIVISION 3

Sawtell Golf Club has always been hard to beat in Division Three and as defending champions it was no surprise to see them make this years Final. Their opponents were Coffs Harbour who were the runnerup last year and were naturally out for revenge. The result was always going to be close and as the matches came through nine holes the contest was all even. Travis Maloney gave Sawtell its first victory but then Michael Bleechmore and Mike Cragg put Coffs in front when they both had convincing wins. John Arnold, who along with Scott Devoy, has always been a mainstay of Sawtell teams, showed what a great match player he is to square the ledger. The final came down to the number one match and Peter Bayley from Coffs had edged in front of Sawtell's Aaron Carroll late into the back nine. Bayley kept his composure on the final holes to record a 3 and 2 victory and reverse last years result.

DIVISION 6

The Division six competition is played between the smaller nine hole clubs only. Fredrickton has the benchmark team for the past six years losing only one final and that was last year when Urunga took the title. Last Sunday in the final, the Urunga team were back to defend their title but this year it was great to see Bowraville make it for the first time. It was always going to be a difficult assignment as Urunga had almost the same lineup as last year and it was that experience that proved the difference. John Gonzales gave the Bowra boys early hope when he took the first match but the battle was quickly evened up when Garry Matherson took the second match for Urunga. Kim Michelson and Dave McBarron both played outstanding golf for the Urunga team in recording convincing victories. Garry Johnstone had a consolation win in the remaining match leaving the final score three matches to two and the Urunga team retaining their title.
